Cliper FAQ — clipboard sync, encryption, recovery and subscriptions
These answers describe the current Cliper development product and website billing. Check platform status before choosing a subscription.
Updated:
Can I download Cliper today?
Public native downloads are not available yet. macOS and iOS have development builds; Windows and Android adaptations are still in development. The public website supports accounts and subscriptions. App Store subscription records are drafts, not proof of a released app.
What does Cliper save?
The clients support a local history of text, links, images and files, with search, content-type filters, groups and favorites. Cloud sync uploads encrypted records and attachments. The website does not read your system clipboard. With approval from an existing device, it decrypts content locally for a temporary read-only session.
Does signing in with my email decrypt my history?
No. Email verification authenticates your account, but a new native client also needs approval from an existing device or a recovery file. The server stores an encrypted key envelope rather than your readable content key. Someone who only knows your email cannot decrypt the vault.
Can Cliper or its cloud storage provider read my clipboard?
Content encryption and decryption run in the clients. The sync server and private R2 storage receive encrypted records and attachments. Necessary account, device, size, time and payment metadata remain visible to the services processing them. This is a design boundary, not a claim that compromised devices or malicious client software are harmless.
When will an item appear on another device?
After the source client uploads its encrypted change and an online, enrolled destination client fetches and decrypts it. Offline devices catch up when they can run and reconnect. Phone background restrictions mean Cliper cannot promise immediate or continuous background clipboard synchronization.
What happens if I lose my recovery key?
Another already-unlocked device or an available unlock passphrase may still let you access the vault. If every usable copy of the decryption secrets is lost, Cliper cannot recover the contents just by sending an email code. Keep the recovery key in a separate trusted location.
Will the seven-day trial charge me automatically?
No. The account trial does not require a card and does not create a paid subscription. You choose monthly USD 3.99 or yearly USD 29.99 separately. Both plans include 10 GB encrypted cloud storage. Subscriptions renew automatically after purchase until cancelled; local prices and taxes are shown at checkout.
Does one subscription work on all my devices?
Membership is associated with the same authenticated Cliper account across supported clients. Website subscriptions are managed through the billing page. Apple subscriptions are managed through Apple when native purchasing becomes available. Separate store subscriptions are not automatically combined or cancelled.
Will my history disappear when membership expires?
New cloud uploads pause after membership or trial access expires. Local history remains available, and authorized clients can read previously synced history. Keep independent backups of important material; neither storage access nor sync is a substitute for a backup strategy.
Does removing a device erase its downloaded history?
No. Revocation stops the device from making subsequent authorized server requests. It cannot remotely erase content already downloaded or copied from an unlocked device.
